Doulas are trained, non-clinical professionals who support women and their families during pregnancy and delivery—and after babies are born. They can provide resources and education, act as a liaison between a woman and her care provider, offer physical support, and provide emotional care to the pregnant person and birth partner. Research has shown that Medicaid beneficiaries who used doula service during their pregnancies and deliveries had better outcomes.

This infographic explains the role of doulas and how they can help improve maternal health.
